Universal® Remote Control Previews OCAP-Friendly Concepts to Sharpen Cable Ops’ Competitive Edge

Presents Ideas for Enabling Cable Remotes to Harness the OpenCable Application Platform to Benefit Viewers and Enhance Revenues

CABLE-TEC EXPO, DENVER, June 21, 2006 — Universal Remote Control, Inc. (URC), a world leader in the custom design, engineering, manufacturing and distribution of high-quality remote controls and wireless technology solutions for the Subscription Broadcast, Consumer Retail, Custom Professional and OEM markets, will preview new OCAP-compliant remote control concepts at the annual conference of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers, beginning here today.

The OpenCable Application Platform (OCAP™) is a set of technical specifications designed to guide cable networks, cable applications developers and other content providers as they create a wave of interactive services that promises to open up new revenue streams and business opportunities. With the click of OCAP-enabled TV remotes, viewers will soon be able to access interactive information, entertainment and other features embedded in OCAP-compliant cable programs and networks, including interactive services involving shopping, games, weather, music, news, banking, sports, advertising, and more.

URC is a leader in developing devices that can be OCAP-enabled, and has been actively strategizing how OCAP-compliant control devices can be customized to meet the diverse program needs of different cable operators. Working closely with individual Multiple System Operators (MSO’s), it has begun to develop generic OCAP-compliant concepts that can serve as the basis for further discussion, and more detailed planning at a pace consistent with the emergence of this new technology.

Universal Remote Control’s OCAP-friendly concepts can be seen along with the company’s outstanding new products in Booth 631, Colorado Convention Center, during the show.
